Edie is a native Georgian who began her financial career in 1983 as a Bond Trader at an Investment Banking firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota.    She moved back into Atlanta in 1987 working at C & S Bank (now Bank of America) and then moved to First Union.  After working as both an Investment Advisor and Financial Consultant at First Union (now Wachovia), she moved to a smaller banks, dedicating 100% of her time as a Small Business Lender, financing conventional, construction & SBA loans.  Wanting an opportunity to get more experience with SBA type lending, she worked at a very large non-bank SBA lending institution. 

Her 24 years experience brought her to High Trust Bank as a Small Business Lender.  She closed on $41,000,000 in conventional, SBA7a, SBA504 and USDA Rural & Development loans in 2008.

Jay Patel

Jay joined the bank as Director, Senior Vice President of Lending on June 4, 2008 and was elected Director of the holding company on August 1, 2008.  As SVP of High Trust Bank, Jay is responsible for day-to-day management, long-term strategic planning, and loan origination under the SBA/USDA/Conventional loan programs.  Since 2003, Jay has also been active in Diplomat Companies where he has focused on real estate and banking investments.  In addition, he serves on the board of Budgetel Franchise System.  Prior to joining Diplomat Companies, Jay spent three years as an investment banker in the Principal and Structured Finance Groups at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York.  His responsibilities included advising financial sponsors on LBOs and M&A, executing equity investments, and securitization of all assets on transactions totaling over $60 billion.  While at Goldman Sachs, Jay advised Ford Motor Company on the sale of Triad Financial, a subprime auto finance company, for $2.1 billion and on the sale of Hertz to a private equity consortium for $17.1 billion, in addition to principalling pools of auto loans for securitization.  Jay also purchased Aramark with GS Capital Partners and a private equity consortium for $8.3 billion and sold Lord & Taylor for Federated Department Stores for $1.2 billion.  Other notable clients he advised were General Electric, Capital One, Citibank, MBNA, Providian and GMAC.  Prior to working at Goldman Sachs, Jay served as a capital markets analyst for GE Capital in Connecticut where he executed credit card, aircraft, equipment, real estate and healthcare securitizations and managed their $40 billion asset and interest-rate swap portfolios.  Jay earned a B.A. in Economics at New York University in 2003 and attended the London School of Economics.  He is licensed by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) for Series 7 and 63, and is an avid soccer enthusiast.  Jay previously was a member of the U.S. national soccer team where he played in tournaments in Sweden and Denmark, in addition to winning the Georgia state high school soccer championship.

Juan has a diversified banking background with over 25 years of experience in small business lending, corporate finance, real estate finance, health care finance, public finance, capital market products, and international corporate and trade finance.  He has a strong analytical background with substantial experience in credit structuring, negotiating and workout.  Juan has an MBA in Finance from the University of Houston.

Laurence S. Leopold

Laurence has more than 15 years of lending experience. Before joining High Trust, Laurence served as Vice President/Regional Credit Officer for Vine Street Financial, the SBA lending division of Branch Banking & Trust (BB&T), and then as a commercial and SBA lender for the Atlanta region of BB&T.  Prior to BB&T, Laurence was an attorney for the US Small Business Administration in Atlanta, Georgia and Dallas, Texas.  In addition, Laurence worked in Washington, DC for the Office of Corporate Finance within the US Treasury Department.  During his tenure there, he drafted testimony for Senate Small Business Committee hearings regarding the credit crunch occurring in the early 90’s.   In addition, Laurence has worked on the Washington, DC staff of a US Senator and US Congressman.

Laurence currently also serves as a member on the loan committee for Capital Partners Certified Development Company.  He enjoys golf, tennis and is a NAUI certified SCUBA instructor.
